Livistona Artist: KYOKO OGAWAさん
【PROFILE】Kyoko Ogawa
She
lives from Miyakojima. Presiding "Studio Yui". She produces a variety
of works, from large-scale objects to interiors and fashion items, by knitting
palm plants that grow naturally in the subtropics and sprouts of livistona
In
Okinawa, livistona is considered to be God's generation and is native to
worship sites and holy places called Utaki. Kyoko, who says, "I feel
Okinawa in livistona. Even though it is God's tree, I also make folkware and
toys. I like its grandeur." has continued its grassroots activity with the
dream of increasing the number of oak trees that have been depleted in recent
years and regenerating the forest.
"The
raw material is the most beautiful. But because art is a joint work of God and
people. Human hands can enter and emit other energy."
Stay like that I the rescape
Kyoko
who used to be a rattan craftsperson. Rattan with uniformity in material is
easy to reflect the intention of the maker. However, even in the same palm
family, it is said that livistona often leaves it to livistona. The title of
this seemingly intricately woven work may be "as it is" because it is
the one whose shape is guided by livistona's intention. You can use it without
leaving one or two leaves without cutting off or passing along. The more you
know, the simpler and cleaner the work.
Dragon God of Galaxy / the rescape
In
the work "Dragon God of Galaxy", which is the first encounter in the
entrance lobby that you visit for non-daily life, there are "Tinbau"
(a rainbow and a snake in the sky) in Okinawa dialect Suderu (in the words of
the old chants Omoro of Ryukyu, molting, sunrise and new beginning of the image
is superimposed. The dragon is also a god of creation. According to hotel name
from the image of escape, retreat, reset, it has a mysterious attraction that
may evoke a new encounter with you
Za I HOTEL LOCUS
The
panel art "Za(Sitting)" displayed at the cafe restaurant of HOTEL
LOCUS was created by the collaboration of the hotel staff and Miyako residents.
The theme of the work was born from Kyoko's experience of young day.
She was thinking alone
in livistona Forest on Kudaka Island, the island of God which is said to be the
birthplace of the Ryukyuan people. When she sat down on the ground covered with
the fallen leaves fluffys and looked up to the sky, the trunk that extends straight
looks like a pillar, and the overgrown leaves so as to cover the sky look like
a roof, and she felt comfortable as being at home. "There is no hub in
Miyako, so it's more secure." I hope to revive this forest someday.
